Postpartum Depression And Suicide

Do You Know Somebody With a Big Depression?

Depression might not be much of a big deal for some, especially when you consider that every person experiences it from time to time. The problem with depression is that it might hang on to you in the most unpleasant of ways. Soon enough, you might not want to associate with a lot of people around you, or worse still, you might feel like hurting someone. That is when it really is a problem. But like I always advice – don’t let it control you. Instead, YOU should control it!

Social situations around you can be affected by your mood. As a matter of fact, if you are depressed enough, you might not want to be involved at all in anything. Sometimes it gets so bad that you sequester yourself away in some locked room for days and people can’t get to you. Always work on ensuring you don’t do anything that can harm you or anyone when you are depressed. Better still, work hard on forcing yourself to get out of such depressive states.

There are many mental illnesses that make themselves evident in countless different ways. Depression is one of the most common of them. All over the world, up to 8 percent of adults suffer depression occasionally, and in the United States, it is prevalent as much as 17% of the adult populace. Try to cheer up eating a delicious chocolate dessert.

Every person can suffer from depression, but women tend to suffer from it more often than men. There is no supernatural explanation for this; merely that they are subject to emotional swings due to hormonal activities within them.

Depression rarely, if ever, comes upon you as a blast. It begins softly, and then it deepens gradually over several months or years, depending on how quickly you catch it – or not. I’d pray you were one of the few people who caught on quick so YOU don’t make a mess of YOU, before it’s too late.

When you suffer from depression, especially the type that is severe in nature, you are likely to appear so confused and frightened that people around you might know it right away. This is not helped by the apparent imbalance that you suffer as well. And those around you never seem to get the better part of it.

Children who suffer from depression may feel unenthusiastic about going to school or mixing with other kids. This will perhaps follow loss of appetite and complaints of aching heads and stomachs. This may not be too far from what adults experience, but they simply might be less capable of handling the situation.

It is normal to find a depressed person restless and agitated. You will see the fidgety movements and the pacing, and you will know something is the matter. However doing something about it could be something beyond you if the person is unwilling to face up to the condition or do something about it.

There are times when depression could come upon you seemingly without explanation or warning. Things could actually even be going well and for no reason at all you feel that familiar sadness and woebegone sensation. You simply have to look out for it least it overpowers you. Always know that you are in control and can change your thinking anytime you want to. You can even give them a cocoa gift, so they can cheer up.

You will very likely have difficulty thinking when you are under the influence of depression. When it is severe, some people even complain of poor concentration, if they are able to think that far at all. The worst part is when you begin to have problems with your memory.  But the solution to depression, most of the time, is not to allow negative things to grow or even take root in your mind.

There are environmental factors that influence depression and its distribution in certain geographical locations. However, the environment is not anywhere as potent as inheritance. Once you have a parent suffer serious depression, you might be next in line. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. You can do something about it, starting with the realization that you are prone to the condition. This should help you to constantly fill yourself up with only positive thoughts to keep you away from depression.

Neurotransmitters are brain chemicals that influence your moods and emotions by regulating them. When you have too many of a particular type of these neurotransmitters, you are in for a rough time with depression. The culprits are dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine.

Medical conditions also cause depression. If you are deficient in vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid, you’re baked. You could catch some diseases like Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s and then depression becomes a regular partner. So, always ensure you take in good amounts of the needed vitamins and minerals. They will surely do you a lot of good.

There is a hormone called cortisol that appears to affect people directly, causing bouts of depression. It is observed that many people, when they have higher than normal levels of hydrocortisone (cortisol), become depressed. It is some kind of adrenalin. Try to cheer up. Have a sweet celebration. It may help.

Depression has a way of growing on you. In truth, many of the characteristics you develop when you are grown have actually been with you since you were young and the first symptoms of the condition ever came upon you. But you did not notice because the disease is like that. And all those self-defeating ways of looking at the world become such a part of your life that you are never again able to shale them off.

People who suffer from depression usually have an overbearing criticism of others. This however is often as a result of how they see and blame themselves for just about everything. They get these deep feelings of inadequacy that they are never able to shake off, and if you stayed around them long enough, they could infect you with it.
