Postpartum Depression Fact Sheet

Is Postpartum Depression a Problem in Your Marriage?

After having a child, it’s common for women to get a little sad. However, these symptoms usually go away over the course of a few weeks. Your wife may be suffering from postpartum depression if the symptoms don’t go away quickly.

The cause of this condition remains unknown. Women experience rapid hormonal changes during and after pregnancy which may play a part. Other changes such as high blood pressure and metabolic changes also occur which increases the risk.

Certain women have a higher risk of developing postpartum depression than others. Women who have been diagnosed with depression in the past have an increased risk. Women who have suffered from severe PMS symptoms may also have an increased risk. Some women develop it after having an unplanned pregnancy.

There are many signs that you should look for to determine if your wife is suffering from postpartum depression. It’s common for women suffering from the condition to be uninterested in their offspring.

Women also start feeling guilty about their negative feelings. Another sign is a change in sleeping habits, whether she starts to sleep more or less than she usually does. Appetite or weight changes are also common.

As a husband, there are certain things you can do to help your wife deal with postpartum depression. One of the best things to do is be there for her to talk to about her feelings. If you can take care of a few things around the house so she can have alone time, it would really help. Enrolling in a support group is also a good idea.

You should also strongly consider signing up for marriage counseling. You should know that marriage counseling is even more important if you’re experiencing problems in the marriage because of postpartum depression. One proven method to help women deal with postpartum depression is psychotherapy.

Another possible solution would be hormone replacement therapy. However, there are a few risk associated with this therapy, so you should discuss it thoroughly with your physician. One final option may be the use of antidepressants.

After having a child, it’s not uncommon for women to develop postpartum depression. If your wife is going through it, you need to show your support and help her through those tough times. It’s a good idea to sign up for counseling or psychotherapy sessions. Marriage counseling may even be beneficial if there are problems in the relationship. Doc No. 34Sdlhgsdl -sds
